Re: Rabbit Farmer's various VW Projects

Given what caused that, I would say you got lucky.

So...any plans for brake mods?

Re: Rabbit Farmer's various VW Projects

I have used Raxles for years for the GTI and love them. Very picky people. They stopped stocking axle sets for the A2 sometime ago because all the OEM German splines shafts for the drivers side were either too worn or damaged and they would not use inferior OEM Brazilian or aftermarket far east part...

Re: Happy Birthday to me (280z build)

I'm using Larson's old seat, which is expired so I'll need to add the rear reinforcement to the cage. I'll probably just run the harness bar behind the main hoop, with bends at each end of it. Nothing too fancy there. I know of no racing rules in the US that accept the FIA seats and recognize that ...

Re: Happy Birthday to me (280z build)

Yep, Art 253 says vertical +/- 10 degrees for the main hoop. NEHA doesnt specify so technically you could get away with more for NEHA. I would suggest trying to follow the 10 degree max since it is possible other sanctioning rules have similar limits and it would be unfortunate if the most elemental...

Re: My '86 GTI build

Well, now that the season is almost over I can say the move to the tablet for a dashboard has been excellent. No reliability or connection/update issues when driving and the instruments seem to stay up with things nicely despite running the communications across Bluetooth. The Samsung Nexus 10 has p...

Re: VW Beetle hillclimb car & trailer for sale

Our rules dont have a grandfather clause. It appears from the limited views in this thread of the current cage that it would need at least a main hoop diagonal and a second sidebar between the A-pillar bar and main hoop. I cannot say that would be it (or even required) without a firsthand inspection...

Re: camber plates

The sliding part looks to be the same. The fixed plates look like they are offset to allow for a bit more caster than stock. Your Mk4 weighs in at about 3000 pounds. Not too surprised the Shine type bent. Its a much better design for a 2000 pound car and FWIW Shine raced and rallied these on A1 and ...

Re: camber plates

The Shine product would be easy to duplicate with some 1/4" plate and a plasma cutter. Then just need to weld a tube to hold the bearing onto the slide plate. The bearign holder was fairly involved but is doing my own I would just weld the tube to the bottom of the slide plate and put a hole in...

Re: camber plates

I have used (the now defunct) Shine Racing camber plates since I built the car in 2002-3 for rally. 1/4" weld-on steel plates with 1/4" steel slider holding the spherical bearing. The bearing is just a high quality steel on steel bearing, inch (5/8" ID 1 3/16" OD) not metric. Ori...
