I like an abreviated rules book. I've been roadracing with SCCA for some time now. Their rule book has reached epic proportions at 695 pages and is only rivaled by War and Peace and the Gideon Bible.

I've used a square of plywood under my jackstands when I'm on a soft surface. Done it for years. If I'm on pavement or concrete, especially with any sand on it, the last thing I need is a jacksatnd with a steel base plate and what amounts to ball bearings under it.
