Re: Okemo 2 caged car crashes
I would beg to differ with regard to ERW used in cage fabrication, for a simple reason - there are thousands of cages out there made with it, and there is nothing wrong with them. No one is suggesting doing new main hoops or door bars with ERW, given what may be in the current pipeline - but banning...

Selling hillclimb equipment/car - $250 paid birddog
Vintage Mopar Gold Mine Financial and medical circumstances compell me to sell a treasure trove of hardcore MOPAR racing parts, with great history and provenance. Re: Okemo 2 caged car crashes
There is a lot of DOM, SAE1005 hydraulic tubing around (at the scrapyard), wich is so soft that it's ASTM spec doesn't even include tensile strength - only rated burst pressire. Re: Okemo 2 caged car crashes
OK, I'm late to the party (reasons willbecome apparent in posts appearing shortly) . I've read through all these posts briefly. I'm the original authour of the current definition of rollcage in the NEHA rules. Further, at one time or another, I have advocated for virtually every change or upgrade di...

Re: Steel Wheels?
Lightweight steel wheels are close to aluminium in weight. Don't take 'em to GoonsRuS Tire - a moron can destroy them with a tire machine! (Hand mounting or an experienced pro = no problem)

Re: Racing: 1.8T engine cooling options
Gutted thermostat sometimes cures an air pocket - For anything not run in hard winter, I drill a couple 1/8" holes in the thermostat, so it won't trap air, and keeps a little circulation thru the radiator, etc.

Coupla thoughts
A) Is it possible there is an air lock somewhere in the system? The "secret" to cooling several P-1 cars has been the use of a pressureized expansion tank, like so (RIP Speedy Bill) http://static.speedwaymotors.com/RS/SR/Product/91015710_L.jpg I know that some VW's have an expansion tank, ...
