If there is ever a post that deserves a sticky--this is it!
Translating road racing to hillclimbing:
Proper tire selection== nothing hooks up on moss or wet leaves.
Staying on the racing line==anything paved is considered good.
Excellent video. If your stuff was not located as described this past couple seasons you probably heard Don and/or I explaining what and why it needed to be moved. I am putting a copy of this on my smart phone so anyone not seeing it and showing up with belts that need to be moved will get the opportunity to see its not just Don and I being hardasses.
I would love to have access to the SFI video footage Mike Hurst showed us from tests done where belts were not run cleanly from mount point to your body...
hmmm, I had 6 point belts but broke my sternum and bruised my male organs in my crash. They didn't mention an angle for the sub belts. I don't think I had mine right and would not like to repeat the same mistakes.
On page 16 they recommend the 2 sub straps go thru the seat to anchor points 4" apart and 0-20 degrees (from vertical) back from the seat opening. This will tend to keep the straps separated. They suggest an option of sitting on the substraps is acceptable if certain conditions exist. If an FIA seat is used that has a narrow or poorly positioned seat bottom opening (FIA seats should not be modified) for the sub strap, preventing it from being either at the right angle or good strap separation, and the lap belt opening lower edges are suitable (low and protected from chafe) then route the sub straps across the top of the racing seat bottom cushion and out the lapbelt openings to the lapbelt anchor points. In this way you sit on the straps. The properly mounted and adjusted lap belts will act to keep your lower body from lifting and the properly tensioned sub straps (either routed thru the seat or sitting on them) will prevent the buckle from rising too high relative to your abdomen when under load from the shoulder harness. I would not do the optional installation if the lap belt openings are high compared to the seat bottom cushion.
