The re-un-retirement of the Dart

Post by 3rdgendennis »

For those interested, and who haven't seen the pictures on Facebook, figured I'd share what we were up to this weekend. The Mad Max Dart came out of retirement (again-i think this is #3) and got some rally inspired upgrades (LED lightbar and snow tires). We ran a two day rallycross at Stafford Speedway with the SCCA. Man, was it a blast!

I can't believe that we made it through an entire weekend of rallycross and drove it onto the trailer. I put a new transmission in it since it broke the input shaft when Josh and I ran it at Ascutney in 2011, and the only issue we had all weekend was losing the fan belt

That thing looks awesome, I'm really looking forward to hearing (and seeing) it.

Are you sure you're telling us everything?

Proper tire selection== nothing hooks up on moss or wet leaves.
Staying on the racing line==anything paved is considered good.

Well, the clutch didn't really work at first, and then it completely stopped working, but we only needed 1st gear and the Dart has a high torque starter, so I wasn't counting that as an issue haha.

Work that wheel!
So, you can drive stuff like this at a rally-cross? Because that's awesome.
Are the wheels studded?

No power steering and a slow ratio steering box FTW! haha with no windshield, I had to run in an exhibition class, but yes, you can run any production vehicle with the exception of some that are susceptible to rollover. No studs, I ran on a set of unstudded Blizzaks.
And my friend Alex (of Daewoo hero run fame) made a blooper video from the weekend (as you can imagine, we spun out quite a few times)
