I have heard it said that it is bad luck to pick a number that looks the same either way up.

That said, I can only recall one hillclimb car with that attribute that we found on its roof...111. But my memory only goes back to the middle of 2007 when I started riding the wrecker in Greg's absence. Of course I have been known to forget stuff.

No one in my database has ever run that number but that only goes back to about 1994. Technically we allow letters so you could run car number "lol" which would also work upside-down. From a practical standpoint we tend to want people to use a number with maybe a letter added. So the database has numbers like F8 and V6 and 24J. There is one BigRed but that was a special case. In the past there was also a car "8 Ball". That was before the reserved number list and as I recall someone had been running 8 and another person "stole" it. Thus 8 Ball was born. We've also started discouraging people from using 4 digit numbers because it just takes too long for the workers to say "car nine four seven eight by check five" So using a VIN is out. :D

Imagine the worker trying to call in car 1M8GDM9A0KP042788 by check 2.

Steve,
Thanks for posting the video and the pictures of Don sporting his new jacket and hat. Although we're extremely fortunate to have so many dedicated volunteers who make the NEHA series a success, there's nobody more deserving of this first-ever award than Don Taylor! I'd also like to say a special thanks to Jeff & Saraha Barrette, owners of the Ink Factory in Clarement, NH, who were a huge help in finding this amazing jacket for us and for doing all the embroidery work - it's awesome! THANK YOU Don for all you've done over the years to help make the NEHA series so very successful!!!
Take care,
Paul Giblin
