IMPORTANT BURKE INFO!!! Updated-6-4-15

Post by sdwarf36 »

Danger Will Robinson-bridge out! :o
Due to construction, there is a detour to get to the hill. Check out the map here: https://www.facebook.com/Burke.VT/posts ... 5737699831

Translating road racing to hillclimbing:
Proper tire selection== nothing hooks up on moss or wet leaves.
Staying on the racing line==anything paved is considered good.

To save a lot of time, stay on White School RD.(stay right) at the Y intersection of Marshall Newland RD. and White School RD. See map attached with the link Sherman posted.
The directions tell you to make left on to Marshall Newland RD. go right it's much quicker. Stay on White School RD. till you hit RT-114 then make a right headed into East Burke. ;)

I'll take a drive out that way today and make sure there's not a reason not too. You never know round here.....

Thanks guys! Ruth mentioned this at Ascutney. Should we still be getting off 91 at exit 23?

I'd use exit 24 to by-pass Lyndonville. There tearing up the roads right now, don't think they'd be done by next week....

In fact if you don't mind dirt roads hit Darling Hill off 114 early, just after the tracks and bridge, left-up a hill, and just go straight through the intersection of East Darling Hill.
Stay on Darling Hill and on too the intersection of Burke Hollow, go straight through, Darling Hill becomes Burke Green RD, cemetery on the right, start looking for White School and make that right when the pavement stops.
Like I said before stay on White school RD.(right at the Y) too 114.
Probably miss a lot of backed up traffic.

The map looks like that coming from the south we should be using Mt Hunger Rd to Maple Ln as the detour? What am I missing?

I see the same thing, Kevin. At the end of Maple, you are past the bridge and continuing on 114

If you forget to take the detour before the bridge, you will have to take the longer detour.

Based on my reading of the posted map.

Ok, once we are at the hill, what is it going to be like to get down to town for dinner or refreshments, like the pub at the bottom of the hill or the Miss Lyndon?

I never travel those roads, don't have to, so I don't know what they look like. Never thought of that route but, personally, I'd still go the other way.
Vermont roads always surprise me.

I talked to the campground mngr. Its no biggie if you're coming from rt 5. Lyndonville. Its a dirt road that drops you to mountian rd. about 1/4 mile up from where you normally turn off 114. Says it only adds 5 minutes to the trip.

From Butch...
Now the wife and I took a ride to burke mt and the easiest way is using the Mt. Hunger rd which is about 3/4 to a mile beyond the Winterset sign on the right side just after the little bridge and then it comes out right by the little dirt road that says Kirby hill road. Also they are suppose to start paving main st in Lyndonville so I would go up 1 exit and come in on rt122 at the stop lights.
So please pass this on
Thanks Butch
