A thank you to everyone who attended Burke 1 2013

I would like to thank everyone who volunteered to work on the hill this weekend, friends and family of drivers and of course the Drivers! This event is consistently tough to find volunteers for, but everyone made it feel much more seamless!

I also can't thank everyone at the event for being up early and ready to go on Saturday (1st FAM run by 8 was amazing!), the weather was cold and rainy, but we all stuck it out and got an amazing 6 runs in while still getting off the hill at 3:30!

Sunday morning again everyone was ready bright and early, thank you all for your patience with Sunday's mishaps, these things happen!

Thank you thank you thank you lets do it again for Okemo!

Thanks for a great event. Sunday certainly falls into the "bad luck" category, but 6 runs on a wedding-shortened Sat was about as good as it gets. Thanks everyone.

A big thank you from Michele and I also. With the limited number of people brave enough to ignore the weatherman, we knew it was going to be all hands on deck. (Fri. nite strategy meeting-Sam came up with the great idea "how about we have the A group drivers work while B group runs-and B work while A runs?" ) And boy did everybody come together. I have never been asked so many times "is there anything I can do to help?" :D It was one of the best set ups--and by far best tear-down I've ever done. THANK YOU!
My job as a Chair gave me plenty of opportuity to worry-(and boy did I! ) I'll borrow Micheles rose colored glasses to point out all the good the weekend brought.
We were on the hill before 8-and had 3 runs before lunch-and another 3 before 3:30.
Every car was running at the end of the day Sat. ( I don't every remember that happening before.)
Speedways rescue truck had 5 tires that held air. :o
I lost 4 lbs over the weekend. 8-)
We had a great KSCC reunion working start -Smokey-Karen Pringle + Brad Martin.
And along with the old friends , we had a bumper crop of rookies.
We were missing a few of our regulars-but John Hart stepped up to help Walter with tech-and Samara had big shoes to fill in taking charge of the workers-and she proved well up to task. :D
Nobody got any sunburn.
We made some great new friends with the owner of Burke + his upper management staff. Really! :D Whoda thunk it! Every think you'd see them posting good things about us on Facebook? https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... 022&type=1
The new owner's "left hand man" ran his Mini and had a blast! Campground manager AJ got a shot at it too. No he didn't beat the car owner-thats bad form. :P
And possibly the best thing that came from the weekend-a handshake from the owner WANTING us to come back + race in August!! :D :D :D
can you say BURKE II ? Details to follow-but keep Aug 23rd + 24th open on your calender just in case. :ugeek:
Translating road racing to hillclimbing:
Proper tire selection== nothing hooks up on moss or wet leaves.
Staying on the racing line==anything paved is considered good.

Thanks Michele, Sherm, Samara and everyone that was there. Everyone pitching in and taking the time to make sure everything worked and was in place got us on the hill early. I agree wuth Sherm tthat makes all the difference. It was great to see the group take a positive approach to the challenges that popped up over the weekend. I hope it continues!
