I wouldn't worry Kevin, you've still got me on power, weight, rear grip, and experience. The only thing I might have going for me the muted self preservation instinct that comes with being under 25. :lol:

So I ran into a little trouble today......Just for fun I decided to remove one of my valve covers, and lo and behold I have a valve spring retainer that's on the hairy edge. about 60% of the rim is gone. I was very lucky to have found it, as it could have failed completely at any time. Im looking for suggestions from experienced engine builders on what to get for new retainers. I will probably get just one for now to get me through Philo, and then replace the whole set before next season. Any and all advice is welcome.

Single spring or multi? Stem dia.? Spring dia.? Degree of keeper? All things you need to know before you order.
If you need retainers, you probably need springs. (It will wake the motor up too. ;) )

I plan on just doing the one keeper for Philo, only have limited time as i'm also fixing the exhaust before philo. I may just take the broken keeper to RPM motorsports and see if they have one in stock. From the looks of things I think its an 1.5" with a 10 degree seat, double spring. I've heard good things about the beehive design (light weight, better power, etc.) but I'm not sure how it would hold up to race use. Ill hopefully do the whole set this winter, the engine could really use a freshening.

Like Shem was saying the springs are probably on the week side and becoming unstable.
Most likely Why the retainer failed.
Don't forget to check the keepers and the valve stem!!
Retainers and springs are cheap and easy to replace, head on engine in one night, and can be reused later when freshened up.
If you must do just one see if they can match you up a spring too, they might have a spare.

Anyway. Go with the beehive springs with matching retainers, A lighter valve train is a lot more stable at High R's and they can handle it.
What you red lining anyway? Just curious.

If you strike out at RPM, try Porter Racing Heads.. He's a bit closer to you too.. 951-1955.. Dwayne does all of my cylinder head work and is very well know in the industry.. He has a lot of parts kicking around..
