Re: Next generation KSCC hill communications
Does anyone have access to relatively clean scrap lead?
I want to put a 1 pound chunk in one end of each headset box to help keep them sitting upright when the lid is opened completely and the headset is removed. Right now the open lid causes the boxes to tip up until the lid touches the ground. I need a dozen 1 pound pieces. I plan to encapsulate the lead and bond each into the boxes so it doesnt present a hazard. I think I can get some new flat or ingots locally, but at a premium price. ebay has them for about $8 each (2/3 of the price is shipping) delivered, but I figured I would ask here before seeing about buying anything.
And before I hear it...I prefer lead to minimize the volume. I have scrap metal and even the old lantern batteries, but I havent resorted to halfassed on this project so far and dont want to now by gluing in old bearings and batteries.

Tire changing place has lots of lead. Unsure if they would give it away for free. Gold is heavy, too. Of course, making the boxes heavy means that people have to lift up heavy items. Any thoughts on something to prop them up instead?

I have a 35lb chunk that was bolted to the Troyer when I bought it. (Stock car rules usually have a minimum weight rule and bolting on lead is a common way to meet the minimum weight.) It was the first thing that came off the car. I can bring it to Okemo. The lead is inside a square steel tube.

Adding a pound doesn't seem like a big deal. Probably just gets us back to what they always weighed with the old big 6 volt battery.Rabbit Farmer wrote: Of course, making the boxes heavy means that people have to lift up heavy items. Any thoughts on something to prop them up instead?

If you wont be needing it, that would be GREAT Kevin!KevinGale wrote:I have a 35lb chunk that was bolted to the Troyer when I bought it. Well I don't think I'll ever need to bolt chunks of lead onto the car. Others might disagree.
