Modifying seat brackets

Post by Chief Geek »

I saw Walters picture of the seat bracket in the VW build thread. The bracket I have doesn't have half as many mounting holes and finding the right seat position has been elusive, so far.

Can more mounting holes be drilled?

If so, is there documentation about the limits of where and how many holes, or is this left to the tech-inspector's judgement?

My seat brackets are 1/8"-ish steel from Sparco.

Just drill what you need and then use a good shoulder washer between each bracket hole and the nut or bolt head above it. A lot of these brackets (including some of Sparco's) have an oval hole every inch. I havent seen one of these FIA brackets pull out yet and I have inspected the aftermath of some pretty amazing crashes.
The older I get the better I was.
