bringing back up an "old" topic..

Any new thoughts about head and neck restraints? After a year of more folks using them, any opinions or pros/cons of the different varieties? Any input on sizing on the model you're using?

I'm looking around at them again. Some popping up on the used market now too. Didn't have one last year, so only ran a few hills and with an X (have had cage for 3 years, but no h and NR)...hoping to get more races in this next season if possible and would like to run the hills I can break out at.

Also, there currently are no expiration dates on these, correct?

Jason,

I have the HANS Sport II. It is ok. I like the idea of the extra side straps on the other brands better.
You and I are about the same size, you are welcome to try/use mine next season if you dont pick one up or want to try one out first. I think once I raise my harness bar a little this spring it should be more comfortable.

I have a hybrid pro rage device. I like it, supposedly it does better with side impacts. You are welcome to come try it.

I have the hybrid. NIce + secure-but I get jelous watching Hans owners be able to just throw their equiptment off + on. I really like the looks of the new necksgen. http://www.necksgen.com/
Translating road racing to hillclimbing:
Proper tire selection== nothing hooks up on moss or wet leaves.
Staying on the racing line==anything paved is considered good.

thanks for the input guys...and much appreciate the offers to try them out too.

Curious, what size device are you guys using? Kent, you and I are probably the closest in size so I'm guessing I need the same that you have.

I really like those new necksgens...seem to be least bulky too.

Mine is a Medium. HANS neck sizing is 14"-17" for Medium and 16"-20" for Large. My button-up shirts are 16 1/2 at the neck so I chose M to be near the end of the scale.

We have two sizes of the hybrid over in the mad river valley if you want to come this way to try one on. Or I can bring them to the neha meeting. I'll agree with Sherm that I do envy how quick, the Hans folks can put there's on. Though I do think the hybrid ties in better with the belts, and heaven forbid something happens with the belts, it still would offer some protection. I do like the Necksgen, and I think they have a new version coming out.

If you do go with the hybrid, make sure you get the more expensive connector to the helmet. The original ones aren't that much fun to deal with if you are in a hurry. I plan to upgrade my connectors this off season.

quick question...which certification is required by neha, and is that expected to change? I'm really interested in this new necksgen unit, however I see it has a SFI cert but no FIA cert. Most others have both. Will that ever matter for our events?
