Rally car classification for 2010

Hi Everyone, I have a few friends asking who are interested in earning points for rally at hillclimbs. Will all rally cars be put into the same group at hillclimbs?

I'm asking because of the restrictor sizes and power limitations faced by those competing in PGT. Will the groups be broken up within the rally class to suit each car?

Alex

Other than the initial announcement (reposted here: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=130) I have not see any details.

I would presume that all rally cars will compete in the same RA classes in which they usually compete at RA regional events. Open, Production GT, Group 5, Group 2 , Production, and Open Light. They are not expected to compete against hillclimb cars in NEHA classes. The drivers, co-drivers and cars will follow all the usual RA licensing, technical and safety rules. They will differ from the NEHA hillclimb competitor scoring in that all their timed runs will be added for scoring as is usually the case in a stage rally.

They are also suppose to get a recce on friday evening.
Send Paul Giblin an email as he would have a little more info on the RA end of things, you should have his email through the neha email list if you are still subscribed.

If anyone has details I'd like to know. I'm not sure at this point what changes I need to make to our timing and scoring application. I'm going to need exact details if I'm going to make code changes. Computers don't deal well with sorta, kinda type of specs.

I will say that whatever change we make we cannot break the single sheet cardinal rule. NEHA results have to fit on one sheet of paper. Anything that breaks that rule isn't going to fly. Having a rally results on a their own separate sheet is fine but the NEHA results have to stay on a single sheet of paper.

Paul Giblin are you out there?

I think clarification from Gibby or someone like JB at RA on scoring expectations is required, but I believe scoring them on a separate page from NEHA should be fine. They will want to be able to take away the results from the events separately from the NEHA regulars anyway so they can apply RA regional points. There might be some interesting twists to think about though. For NEHA we do Saturday and Sunday separately. For RA we will need to combine Saturday and Sunday for the rally cars. Also, we will need to know how to score DNS and DNF since they dont add well. In performance rallies these normally result in the end of the event with a DNF, but organizers will usually let competitors get back into the event for seat time, the times after a DNF are recorded but not counted. There is also this thing used in some rallying called "super rally rule", wherein a competitor is permitted to rejoin a rally after a DNF by taking some formula penalty times for any DNF stages. However it has not been used to any degree at RA events and is not included in their operations manual.

That's about what I expected. The rules may be complicated. Which is not to say I'm against the idea in any way I just expected it wouldn't be simple.

To answer the question about rally car classes i will be talking to J>B Niday about that within the next couple of weeks. Originally it was only going to be two classes turbo and non turbo. The 2 wheel drive turbo cars will be unrestricted and the AWD cars will have to run the proper inlet restrictor. As soon as i get ahold of J.B I will post it on this page. Don

Thanks Don,

I'm not too worried about getting software changes done before the first event. Our results will have all the data needed to calculate rally points. So they may just need to be calculated by hand at first. In fact I'm perfectly happy to do no software changes and just submit the NEHA results but I suspect if we have more than a few rally teams they will want to know how they are placing relative to each other without doing lots of calculations.

Good afternoon guys.... per Don's statement earlier - the original idea of the Rally Class was to keep this VERY simple and have two classes as Don mentioned. Given the limited particiation we've seen in these classes to date, I'd like to suggest that we keep things as they are for the forseeable future and not change anything. Thanks, Paul
