I've been reading the novice threads and trying to learn what NOT to do. I just wanna have fun and not wreck. With 106hp....I don't think I will have to worry about break out times. I guess it doesn't really matter what class the car is in since I'm just going to run for fun.

The Ford Fiesta with the 1.0 liter Ecoboost looks like it'll be a ton of fun and seems like it would shake things up in displacement based classes.

That is right attitude to have. It takes a while to learn all the hills before you can truly go fast as your car will allow. Usually the limiting factor for the first several seasons is the nut behind the wheel. You'll be able to learn some hills easier than others.
Usually your first visit to a hill it is all you can do to commit to memory the corners/hazards that are the hardest. Your car will rely more on momentum, so as you get more confident, you'll be trying to carry speed through sections where the higher power cars have the luxury of just mashing the go fast pedal. It makes for a very interesting experience. My opinion is that it will make you a better driver over the long haul.
The great thing about hillclimbs is that you are truly competing against yourself. I think some of the best modifications you can do is to invest in an in car camera, and some sort of cheap data logger. The courses are so long it lets you see where you are improving, and where you may have regressed.

Come to the hills and enjoy. You'll have a blast racing the yaris. You don't need a ton of power to have fun...and believe it or not you don't need a ton of power to break out either, once you get a bit more comfortable with a hill. I've broke out at Ascutney and Philo with a 90hp diesel rabbit.

For me it's much easier to learn the hills, and learn to drive, using a lower power car. It's still very fun. When I first started I was running a 68hp 1.6 diesel and I still really had a ton of fun...enough fun to add a cage and keep trying.

It's just friendly competition...and mostly competing against yourself, in my opinion. I just like to go and try to improve on my previous times or to improve my driving style. You couldn't ask for a better group of racers, everyone will welcome you regardless of what you drive.

There is a small group of nuts the past two seasons that get out of their high powered cars for a run in a stock Daewoo Lanos.... all of them have had a blast.
