Imagine a Volvo or Pugeot turbo engine in one of these, or a BMW M-series. Chassis/component repair available from many local sources, Running geardirt cheap (compared to anything Euro, Asian, or post-1980 American), readily available, top quality. That would be nice, I will admit my air cleaner has been known to block my sight line.

You could use a shorter air cleaning element. You don't need one as large as you are using.

He could go to dry sump, and take the 2" blocks out of the motor mounts. And Moroso makes a "deep drop" air cleaner base, especially for wet sump "SK" modifieds. In addition, Backwoods Racing and Robot Racing may be collaborating on a new design low profile, high flow filter assembly.

A 5.0 Ford would be none too shabby, and they are around for cheap. They are quite a bit smaller than the ubiqutous SBC, and 100# lighter.
