I know you-how long did you search the shop for another nut to get 3 more segments? ;)

love the fab work, great job. I've had to do similar stuff, got a drawer of homemade tools. This one you just built is awesome

OK..... :? I just realized all my images are blank. I was going to add to the thread but
I guess I'll try to fix this first. Is there a way for that not to happen?
I just re-organized my pictures in Photobucket so that must be what happened.
That sucks..... Anyone got advise for that?

It can't be undone either. Wish there was an easy fix, but there is not. Sorry.

Photobucket is notorious for that problem. Flickr uses a smarter "Globally Unique Identifier" for each image, which makes them consistently available no matter how you rearrange them ... for what that's worth. I'm not sure I'd call it good, but I would say that Flickr is less bad.

To the future May 29 2015>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Boink! You've been there but not here. Well be back, later, at the present, to catch up with the past.

So on the second to last run at Ascutney, on sunday, I noticed the oil was hotter then it'd had ever been. It wasn't even that hot really, 150-deg.
Engine Ran Awesome though, pulling up to 7000, could really hear it come in to it. So I think it likes it. kind of...
Just the hottest so far..... Anyway my oil pressure, that's the issue, was like 30-psi toward the top, on the straights, engine at, like, 5000~5500 rpm.
Even at holding revving the engine had no effect, 30 and got there slow.
I didn't really like that, why is it like 60 to 75 psi normally but now 50 deg warmer and it falls off the face of the earth? :?
What if I got it to 180 then what? No way not good. So the last run I was pretty damn anxious at start, not really thinking about it but IT was in there, the worry.
Did the run and had about 20 psi going through finish  , pulled in to holding same thing but now the oil is 170 deg's. OK what the H E Double sticks is going on here. :?
The engine was pretty darn toasty but sounded good. Did hear a valve train noise but couldn't put my finger on it just figured Hot and Air-Cooled = Valve train noise.
Worry Later....
Now on the down run I'd loose about 50~60 deg of oil temp, every time, and sitting in line the oil pressure would go back to what appears normal. Every time.

I tore the engine apart last Saturday... I know right......
What I found was that 2 lifter bores, an intake on 4 and an ex on 3 had become a slot or what I'll call a slot. The lifters rocked a good 1/16" up an down, not in and out, up and down or side to side whatever it move in unnatural ways. And since that's part of the oiling system that's my leak and my problem.
Where the hell am I going to get a case? To late to send out not in the budget for new..... To the stash!!
I tore apart one, then I tore another apart, then another, then the one I just bought at a yard sale, then the one in the shop I though would be to easy and got a winner!!!!
Std. Case with perfect lifter bores and perfect main saddles. SWEEEEEET! :D
At this time I've jet washed the case, cleaned the oil passages, grinded all the casting flash off.
And now punching-out and facing the case for the 92mm jugs, re-wash it all then start the build off!!!!

One more thing. I have this crazy idea  I got looking at the Super Chickens water cooled brakes. Why can't I mist water into my cooling system, into my fan?
I wonder if I could run a higher CR because the heads run cooler?
Anyone got thoughts on this?? :?:

Later on. I got's to get milling.. 8-)

What are you using for oil?

My guess is misting the engine air cooling would have a large impact. You might want to look into what is known about water and water w/additives misting on aluminum so you select something that wont cause corrosion (and decrease cooling) with the aluminum in your engine.

I'm sure you frequent air-cooled forums like Samba-and I bet someone has tried something similar if they felt the need. Our last fast beetle was run over 10 years ago. (RIP Charlie Rutan.)
I personal think the fan would act like a big centerfuge + fling the water to the outside.

You don't think it would mist all to hell in there? But again it could cling to the fan housing and be just a wet mess... hmm...
The Samba is the Devel

Valvoline VR-1 Racing oil, 10W-30. I didn't mention this but the rotating ass'y looked perfect, like new.
I question the block also the lifters are Scat 'window' lifters.
Even though I de-burred the edge of the window it's still pretty sharp. But I still think it was the block. It is forty years old.

HA! And It's Magneisum! trick question. Even worse!! Right? LOL!
Na, But you right, didn't think about that.
