Tons of good info! I'll most like try to run an open diff at first and upgrade when I decide I'm ready/hungry for it. I've experienced some of the joys of the locked rear-end so I'm certainly not going to force one on myself.

As for the tranny, how often are you seeing first gear on a hill climb? I wouldn't think a 2-3 lever would be a bad choice with a dual stick setup.

I'll be at the Ascutney climb later this month to pick some brains as well if that's alright.

That might sorta work with an old-school 3 speed - but the BIG drops between gears hurt
Most of the 2 or 3 speeds are 4 speeds with a gear or 2 removed, so that 1-R is not on the same selector.

Also- if there is any interest - i've been sketching an offset roadster, powered by a Suzuki and using Mazda Miata suspension cradles.

I'm certainly with John on this one. You need 1st to launch the car then you will need 2nd, 3rd and 4th. At Okemo with a motor with a lot of low end power I can run just 3rd and 4th but that won't work well on other hills.
