The rollcage rule mentions "energy absorbing structure" to the front and side of the driver. As the authour of the draft rule, I can tell you that it was specifically written around nerf bars.
Don Peaslee and Paul Tingaud both added nerfs, in part to comply with our rules. And off-road racers use them too - they call 'em "tree bars" - might be a clue there.

Sherm, you should get out more.sdwarf36 wrote:Dumbest thing in the world
Add nerfs to the powder coat list...
No! Purple hasn't looked mean since Barney. I'm leaning towards flourescent yellow, or white tin and black bits. We'll see.3rdgendennis wrote:Purple!Shenglehoffer wrote:The plan is to take a lot of the bits off and have them powder coated a nice subtle color of my liking...

It's got a winters Q/C, so I have plenty of options. I know of a vari-lock that might be for sale. I can also pick up a locker for short money, I'm not opposed to running that. In the mean time, spools don't scare me, that's what the Dmod had it at was splendid.

JMHO - the rear weight bias, big tires and extreme track width makes a spool a real handful in these cars - to the point that all the setup stuff goes out the window when you change.
Re: Troyer Mod for sale - cheap and local
Although I'm dealing at a smaller scale, the same laws of physics apply. On a good day, it didnt feel bad having a spool. In the wet-around the rock at Philo-turn 10 at Burke all were a little shaky. It became a whole new car once I put a limited slip in. I've had both-+ I wouldn't go back to a spool.
Translating road racing to hillclimbing:
Proper tire selection== nothing hooks up on moss or wet leaves.
Staying on the racing line==anything paved is considered good.

Oh I completely agree, Sherm. If I can get a nice LSD, I certainly will. It's the budget that'll hold me back for now, but it will get one at some point. I figure I'll at least is I slap in a Detrioit locker befor Washington.

Black with a nice gunmetal powder coat would look pretty mean. Some ghosted graphics would complete the package.

I'd look at a bright blue that can be matched to spraycans (aka "fleet" colors) - like Ford tractor bright blue - for the bolt-on bits - and a 2 or 3 tone blue for numbers.lettering. Oh, yeah - add wheels to the powder-coat list, if not there already. A Markal paint pen does an OK job of striping rims. Besides all that, your new engine is already dark blue.......
