Luke's question - there are figures in the Appleton Rack & Pinion catalog for how much the rack moves in turns/inch - I beleive that you can download the whole repair manual from their site.

Walter's question - it is an aftermarket, integral servo, power steering rack designed for late model sportsman/super late model applications. They pretty much interchange bolt-to-bolt with Howe, Wilwood, Coleman Machine, Sweet Mfg., and Woodward racks of similar size.

John, thanks for the info. I acquired a steering quickener from Sherm that I am going to try out. I will install that and then evaluate from there. Is there a means of adjusting the amount of steering assist on the rack, just in case my increased staring ratio makes my effort more than I am comfortable with?

Small update. Ordered a new oil accumulator today (Moroso 3 quart) to replace the one that I crushed at Philo. I ordered an air charged piston style as opposed to the gravity fed I had before. Mainly for the extra capacity (double) and so I can mount it somewhere out of the way of trees.

The next item I am working on is replacing my front brakes but I'm having trouble figuring out what parts are correct (mainly pads). The rotors are easy, ill just order the Howe brand replacement rotors. Im having trouble finding the right pads.... On the Howe Racing website they sell Hawk MT4 compound pads in GM Metric.

https://www.howeracing.com/p-7718-hawk.aspx

These match the number I was given from Smokey. My only problem is they dont look like the pads I currently have which look like this.

Image

From my online research the above pads are GM "Intermediate". Where as GM "Metric" are as follows.

I was literally seconds away from ordering GM "Metric" style brakes due to the info I had. It looks to me like I need GM "Intermediate" Pads. Which coincidentally are not as prevalent. Any help/opinions would be great. Maybe I'm overlooking something.........

Have you measured them up to see if they match the dimensions pictured?

Started looking at installing my new oil accumulator today (moroso 3qt air charged vs old 1.5 qt gravity fed). And since the new one is much larger than the previous it won't fit where the previous one was mounted. Really the best place space wise would be on the passenger side of the car. Does anyone know if there is any tangible disadvantage to having the feed hose length around 4 feet as opposed to the previous ones 1 ft? I'm sure there may be some reaction time loss due to friction in the longer hose but I don't know if its enough to matter in actual practice.

Updated original post with progress. I also have undertaken relocating my brake and clutch pedals back to their original floor mounted position. Im almost to the point where I can install everything and see how it all works. It whould provide me with more clearance between my legs and the steering wheel than I had last year. Hoping to have at least the essentials done before burke

You better have it done before Burke! Tired of not seeing you at events. How are you set on tires? I may have a source for some takeoffs.

Currently have a set of American Racers from Roy on. Harder compound than the Hoosiers. M130 front and 131 rear. Very interested in your source.
