Thanks, I'll keep it in mind as a fallback, if I can't finish my script in time. My script will be open-source, but I can't promise that it'll be platform-agnostic (it may only run in Linux, I haven't been testing other environments).

I just picked up a sizeable Optima deep cycle battery that I'm looking forward to testing out, and the laptop is completely disposable (if it dies, I won't lose any sleep over it). If my battery turns out to be inadequate, I'll take you up on that offer on Sunday, but I'd like to leave the laptop out with instructions for anyone to just walk up and use. I'm hoping this solution is adequate, at least as a prototype.

The battery will be fine, what you need is an adequate power inverter (I wouldn't advise running the laptop directly from the battery AC). For battery longevity you'll also need a good charge controller that matches your battery type (I am assuming it's an AGM) but don't expect miracles, even with top-notch hardware the efficiency of these setups is poor (<65%).
I have 2 deep cycle batteries in the trailer with a charge controller for a solar panel and a large power inverter so that I can run the compressor. My trailer is always open and people are welcome to walk-in. Though at Burke, my trailer is too big to fit in the campground (maybe the registration table would be a better and easier location for everyone).

Right, it's a used battery but I'm getting 13.7v out of it after a week off the charger, so it should be decent. I have a cheap little inverter, and I'll bring along a multimeter so I can monitor the battery condition throughout the weekend. I was thinking that under the registration/lunch ezup somewhere would be convenient and accessible for everyone. I don't know what the weather looks like for Burke, but I might end up picking up an ezup for myself as well!

The tricopter experiment was mostly a success, and footage is up. Ian is working on a more powerful, longer-flying rig to solve some of the problems he discovered at Okemo, so this footage isn't perfect, but I'm pretty impressed with how a lot of it came out.

Just looked at one vid and it came out good! The preview is too slow to try to look at the other ones, but otherwise it's great!

Yeah, sorry my bandwith is kind of limited there. Still working on my permanent solution, but progress has been slow since work is so busy right now (and both cars are eating up a lot of my time).

No worries, will see you at Burke!
