Can anyone recommend a decent motel near Philo. The little lady was cold camping at Ascutney, I figure it will be even colder up at Philo. Thanks for any input. Chris

Rt7 has a bunch of hotels all within 15 minutes of the hill. The only chain one i recall is a Super 8-the rest are mom+ pops. Call now to check--the one time i stayed in a hotel it was "parents weekend" at all the colleges + they all were filled up.
Translating road racing to hillclimbing:
Proper tire selection== nothing hooks up on moss or wet leaves.
Staying on the racing line==anything paved is considered good.

I don't have a specific hotel to recommend, but make sure you get a reservation in ASAP. The end of September, and early October tend to be peak tourist season for leaf peepers, and the hotels fill up quickly.
There are several on Shelburne Rd, in south burlington and Shelburne. Any one with a national franchise should be decent/clean.

Closest to the hill is the (IIRC ) Mt' Philo Inn, a B&B on the access rd. Cute, and a nice breakfast - but some facilities are from Lilliput. Jimmo's is the cheap motel closest to the hill (in No. Ferrisburgh). Owners and place a little odd, but functionally fine. The Skyview is a little further south on 7, it's fairly nice, and the resturaunt (Country Kitchen) out front usta have good eats.
