pics and video from Ascutney

Post by dsldubn »

Seth generously cooked a ton of wings for everyone on Friday night...then on Saturday the used oil went into my car and Justin's car. Wing oil soot shooters. Thanks for the oil...and wings.

Thanks to everyone involved in putting together the event and thanks to all workers.

Here is one of my runs...it's slow, but I still had fun. Just need some power. Sure does get bumpy at the top! Skip forward 30 seconds or so to avoid crappy camera shaking.

We were discussing the BP disaster at work today-I came up with an idea for a new bumper sticker:

MY OIL SPILLS CAN BE CLEANED UP WITH ITALIAN BREAD
(don't tell Dave V. we are running on veg--hes SURE it doesn't work. )

My oil burner worked out great on its maiden voyage on the slop-325 miles on maybe 1 gallon of diesel. 8-)

Thanks for the wings Seth-they were great after a long tuff day.

I got to say I'm a little dissappointed in some of you. I only went through 20lbs of wings. I fully expected to go through the 30lbs I had on hand.
I think for next time around I'll have to bring a milder sauce for some of the greenhorns, I had intended to do that, but forgot it on the rush out of the house on friday. I think the mango's heat kind of snuck up on some folks.

I also need to work on the fryer setup as it was taking far too long to get the oil to temp, so It was taking twice as long to cook a batch. I was a little gun shy with it, as the last time we used it, we had an "incident".

That reminds me, I need to get a new fire extinguisher for the subaru.

serious question for you veggie fuel folks.

Is there a difference in performance in the different fryer oils, and is there a difference between an oil that has been used(for cooking) for a long period of time versus shorter?

Nothing that I ever notice-i toss everything in 55 gal drums and let it around a long time till i filter it. The chinese place I get oil from always is dark + burnt smelling-other places its more dark amber. It all burns. Its the less work filtering that makes the clean stuff desirable.

Julie is fine..... once we got past her emotions. All is good. I have not looked at the Golf as I don't plan to fix it in the short term. I have too many other projects that I have been pushing off to get ready for Ascutney. I will fix it.

I was trying to figure out the Tub II last night. Still not sure what is wrong with it, but I'm replacing some wires tonight (positive off the battery is badly corroded).
