the oe gt 40 heads are iron but they came aftermarket aluminum which i believe was the gt 40x which is about 1200 new for a set. But you can get a descent set of aluminum performance heads for 700 bucks. best bang for the buck i could find.

they made a non world class and a world class t5 and the world class is slightly stronger, but, the stock t5 wont handle more than 300 pounds of torque. the gears are notoriously weak. they have a transmission they started making in 93 that was labeled the T5Z transmission which could handle 450 horsepower. It also had better gear set for racing. the way to tell is on the tag on the tranny it will say -251 in the set of numbers. And the better of the t5's is -249.
these are t5z gears there are a bunch of stock regular t 5 setups
1st: 2.95
2nd: 1.94
3rd: 1.34
4th 1.00
5th: 0.63
:ugeek: U pretty much need to buy a race transmission for high horsepower.
Thats probably why jons thunderbirds tranny was going because the car had about 300 hp and was beaten a lot.

a iron head 302 weighs apx 500--minus 70 or so for aluminum heads.
Translating road racing to hillclimbing:
Proper tire selection== nothing hooks up on moss or wet leaves.
Staying on the racing line==anything paved is considered good.

:? :? :? :? Trunnions :!:    EEUUUWWW!!!!!!!!

Oh- a T5 is not a Tremec, and vicea versa - it's a BorgWarnerT5 that is comprable to a bottle rocket for longevity. And AOD's are pretty chancy in reg'lr ol' cars
I hear that some of the Tremecs are pretty good, actually - but there a bunch of different gear ratios around, and the only ones that concern you are between 2.5\1 and 1\1 8-)

well...it looks like Sherm is correct. The "P" in GT40 P heads means production. Straight GT40 heads are sold through Ford Racing Dept. Aluminum are only on select models. I'll be hitting the swapmeets next month.

Where is your sense of adventure?
I really didn't look all that close. A saw ford and I saw aluminum heads, didn't really look at the pictures.
Though I thought flatheads had the spark plug hole on the block instead of on the cylinder head, hence the name flat head.

Anything with more than 4 cylinders is confusing for me....not that I know a damn think about 4 cylinders either.
