I kept them. That's no excuse, however. Pick up some soft TIG welding gloves. I think they are OK in the rules?

Don and I will not accept gloves unless labeled SFI/FIA or they are made from Nomex. All leather gloves are bad because they shrink when heated - and TIG gloves will conduct heat pretty quickly to the hands as well as shrink. I have burned myself enough picking up recently welded aluminum with them to know.

I probably agree with "Don and I". We might want to put that in the rules. We are gradually getting some good rules. Don't get to "Legislating from the bench".

Lest those on a tight budget are thinking we are getting away from the affordable appeal of how we do these events, here is a low cost glove that looks like it meets our requirements: http://shop.vtarmynavy.com/shared/Store ... googlebase What is not clear from the text is if the gloves have a label that says Nomex anywhere on them.

It is common for racing gloves to have leather on the palm, thumb and finger grip surfaces because Nomex is generally slippery and doesnt wear well. SFI and FIA approved gloves usually have this configuration. To prevent problems like not being able to remove them in a hurry when overheated heated (full leather) and to improve protection against heat and flame the sides and back should be a stretchy knit Nomex.
