This is a very good article on a build-up, in proper Irish fashion - follow it all the way through, cool to the end..

Excellent source for pre-made-gussets, tabs, foot plates
http://www.aa-mfg.com/
Way cool stuff - this stuff, and some brains/imagination, can make your fabrication look very professional, like so: foot plate, clean and ready to weld
Nifty saddle gusset, take you $20K in tools to make one this nice - $3.95 each
or these tiedown/lift tabs
UB machine sells some A-A stuff, makes a bunch of other stuff - check out the threaded steel tubes for suspensions, etc.http://www.ubmachine.com/index.html

If only I could fabricate and weld... this is like a candy store for cage builders!

It's not that hard to learn to weld, at least good enough for most stuff.Rabbit Farmer wrote:If only I could fabricate and weld... this is like a candy store for cage builders!

I could weld with oxy/acel back in high school. I tried to mig with Andy's setup (when Andy was building his green Rabbit for the hillclimbs), but I had a hard time with the "I can't see anything before I pull the trigger" shield. LOL

Try one of the new automatic helmets, and a very bright light on your welding area

I have 2. The first was a Hobart that I hate. Damn near blinded me with seemingly random dropouts, especially when welding with low current like seam welding. The second one is an Optrel Satellite (http://www.envirosafetyproducts.com/pro ... elmet.html- more costly but endlessly adaptable to what you are doing from grinding and plasma cutting to very low and very high current welding.Mopar 151 wrote:Try one of the new automatic helmets, and a very bright light on your welding area
The older I get the better I was.

I have the Harbor Freight helmet. It works great. The only time I had an issue was working in tight space and the light sensory was blocked by a section of roll cage I was welding. It only has 2 small sensors about an inch above the eye window.
